on broken elbows

once (recently) a dear friend told me that i must be getting smarter since i use the right side of my brain all day...no thanks to a nasty fall on the ice this past tuesday, leaving me with a broken right elbow.

i don't really feel any smarter, though, putting on mascara with my left hand...because tonight i can't even remember the difference between "communicative language teaching" and "whole language education" for my linguistics test on monday.

the only thing i'm thinking about is how all of a sudden the only things i want to do are the very things i cannot: ride a bike on this warm pre-spring day, go to 6 am yoga, write a letter to someone i love, and take a picture of that sunset at utah lake. these things all seem practically impossible now, especially since i can't even put my own hair in a ponytail. (which makes me fear getting old and losing the ability to wipe my own butt. that's another post entirely.)

i remember a video clip i watched 3  years ago about a paraplegic who said that we're all broken, some mentally, some physically, and some emotionally. i wonder if i keep breaking so that i'll realize that i can't always heal myself.
