on enlightenment

illumination: to be enlightened, intellectually or spiritually.

tonight i stared at beautiful pictures of rocks and trees and skies. it was the semester-end photography show for my all-time favorite byu class: nature photography. there's just this magical thing about being in beautiful places and seeing shadows/highlights/perspectives/colors/shapes/etc.etc.etc. in a way that forces you to go beyond looking at something and saying "wow!" and forgetting about it the next day.

everyone's pictures were stunning. they made me want to sell everything i own, buy a sweet camera, throw some stuff in a backpack and just explore outside all.day.erry.day.

the pictures i showed were focused on the idea of illumination. i kept thinking and thinking about how the only light source for my pictures was the sun, and yet the effect of light was so drastically different in every single photo.

i thought about how in life light comes from one source (the Son), and how at different times in my life that same light has created a different mood or highlights a different aspect of my world. and i like that.
