Glory, Glory, Man. United!

Yesterday we had the glorious opportunity to attend the Community Shield match between Manchester United and Portsmouth. I don't think I can put into words how absolutely amazing it was. The game was at Wembley Park and there were nearly 85,000 people there. Soccer fans have recently been rated as the coolest, most drunk, and most hilarious people on the planet. Oh, and did I mention LOUD?! The stadium was exploding with noise for the entire 90 minutes. I was literally in awe the whole time.

I think I watched less of the game and more of the crowd because it was so incredible. Plus most of them were pretty hilarious because they downed so many pints before the match. Walking into the stadium, there were bags and bags full of beer cans (you're not allowed to take it into the stadium) and hoards of men standing around taking the last gulp. It reeked like crazy!

The security was amazing there! Tons of policemen on horses and other people EVERYWHERE. Fans were kept separate for the most part. There were two separate entrances and the stadium was split in half. One half was entirely blue (portsmouth) and the other was a sea of red (manchester). Words...and pictures even...don't do it justice. Even if you're not a fan of the sport (shame on you!), going to a match of that caliber should definitely be on your list of things to do before you die.

Crazy amounts of loud soccer fans

Anyway, it was beyond amazing to watch the world's best team with die-hard fans in an incredible venue. The boy next to me even went to the game alone...on second thought, maybe he was only alone because all his friends are Chelsea fans. Oh, and did I mention how freakin awesome our seats were?! 12th row, baby! You can kinda tell how close we were from the pictures. Well, we won the game in a shoot-out (Portsmouth apparently couldn't handle the pressure) and that was just icing on the cake. Ahhh...sweet victory. For more pictures, check out my facebook profile.

Me, Mal, and Ab at the game. I took the opportunity to rep RSL :)

On a more spiritual Sunday note...In the morning before the match, we successfully made it to church on-time and all in one piece. I love being a member of a church that is the same wherever you go in the world--lingo and all!
